Professional Wasp, Bees and Hornets Removal

Wasps, hornets, and bees become more active across Southern Ontario during spring and summer, especially around eaves, soffits, decks, sheds, fences, rooflines, wall voids, gardens, outdoor eating areas, and landscaped spaces. These insects are not all managed the same way. Wasps and hornets can create a serious safety issue when they build nests close to entryways, patios, play areas, or customer-facing spaces. Bees require a different approach. When the insects involved are honey bees, the preferred response is professional identification and relocation whenever practical rather than routine extermination. Early identification matters because the safest and most appropriate solution depends on the species, the nest location, and the level of risk on the property.

Stinging insects become a problem when nests are located where people, pets, staff, or customers regularly pass by. Wasps and hornets can defend nests aggressively and may sting more than once, which is especially concerning near doors, patios, playgrounds, loading areas, restaurant seating, and high-traffic commercial entrances.

Wasps are usually slimmer, smoother, and more brightly patterned than bees, with narrow waists and papery nests often found under eaves, inside soffits, in sheds, wall voids, or underground depending on the species. Hornets are a type of wasp and are generally larger, with enclosed paper nests often seen in trees, shrubs, rooflines, or other sheltered areas. Bees tend to look rounder and hairier than wasps, and many species are important pollinators. Honey bees in a swarm are often temporary and may leave within a day or two, while colonies inside structures may require removal and clean-up of bees, comb, wax, and honey to avoid attracting other pests. Correct identification is critical because a paper wasp nest, a yellowjacket problem, a bald-faced hornet nest, and a honey bee colony do not call for the same response.

If you are seeing a visible nest, repeated flying insect activity near one area of the property, or insects entering and leaving a wall, soffit, roofline, shed, or ground opening, the best next step is a professional inspection. Do not disturb an active nest on your own. Wasps and hornets can become aggressive when threatened, and bee situations should be identified carefully before any action is taken. For honey bees, Birches Pest Management can help assess the situation and prioritize relocation or beekeeper referral whenever practical.
